ANNA MASIUL-GOZDECKA
Graduated from Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in 2000. She studied painting under prof. Krzysztof Wachowiak, photography under the guidance of prof. Rosław Szaybo. After graduation, she worked as a graphic designer and photographer for several years. In 2005 she returned to painting with the exhibition of watercolour paintings “Flowers”. Her works are in collections worldwide: Poland, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, Luxemburg, Switzerland and Singapore. She paints realistic and abstract paintings using acrylic paint and collages.

Anna Masiul-Gozdecka’s output can be perceived as twofold: figurative and abstract. Both paths complement and inspire each other. They seem completely separate, but they coexist and form the whole image of the artist’s work. Their common denominator is colour and a reference to dreams, in which nothing is impossible and parallel worlds interpenetrate.

On the one hand, there is subtle realism, with insightful portraits, the study of emotions and feelings; on the other hand, the search for abstraction in space, an explosion of colours or the asceticism of white and black. This polarity makes her work incredibly lively and diverse, responsive and unpredictable. Seemingly constantly asking, “What can happen today?”

Abstract painting is like discovering the inner cosmos, unnamed, untouchable, elusive. It’s like solving an equation with an infinite number of unknowns. However, it has that magical moment when suddenly everything seems to fit and be in harmony. Further questions arise: what else is hidden under the term abstract painting? In what direction can the meaning of this concept evolve? How can it change me? What can awaken in me? What feelings and thoughts do you provoke? What imperceptible will I be able to see in it? Therefore, it is safe to say that abstract art is art that provokes questions, searches and discoveries. That is why Anna Masiul-Gozdecka’s paintings are diverse, varied and inquisitive.

Realistic painting does not have to reflect reality; it looks for other layers, meanings, questions, and perspectives. Light, shadow, people, objects – supposedly the same every day, yet each moment has so many different shades and levels on which we capture and interpret reality. Through painting, we communicate with each other on a more subtle level, impossible to verbalize. Sometimes it is something that we can see in the eyes of the portrayed person and feel in the situation that is depicted. We sense this other reality and seek its interpretation within ourselves.
