“To see more, to hear yourself” – about Michał Bajsarowicz’s painting
The most important motif in Michał Bajsarowicz’s work is a human being.
The artist focuses in his painting on the body. With a gently guiding, sketchy line, he extracts shapes from nothingness of the blank canvas. The concreteness of the body, human physicality, however, tend to “represent” spirituality. It is spirituality that overtakes the viewer; images lead to meditation, to mindfulness.
The trace left on the canvas is a testimony of being, in its physical and spiritual dimension.
Moved bodies appear in large format paintings. In drawing, the shapes emerging from an undefined space, harmoniously combine what is spiritual with what is corporeal. Finding this unity, Michał Bajsarowicz uses visual effects in which he combines the line – responsible for the narrative, for what is recognizable – with color, which builds the mood.
The intensity of the dash changes. Sometimes it becomes strong, very expressive. It is carried out on the surface of the canvas or paper definitely. It is a scratch. It is a scream. Sometimes, however, it becomes a whisper – it is soft and delicate, barely visible. Much more discreet, subtle; as if she also showed hesitation.
In this image of a man, the chief feature of the human condition is revealed. It’s the gap between certainty and ignorance. The boundary between being and non-being. What is real and what is imagined.
This visual language developed by the artist in a consistent way sets a task for the viewer. It is not enough to embrace these images with your eyes. Rather, they encourage contemplation.
Yes. One needs to get closer. Then walk away. Go back again and close your eyes to look again – see differently. See more. Maybe even hear yourself.
