TERESA PĄGOWSKA

TERESA PĄGOWSKA (1926-2007)
Graduated from Academy of Fine Arts ( Uniwersytet Artystyczny) in Poznan in 1951 at faculty of painting and wall-painting techniques. She was a pedagogue at art univeristies in Gdańsk, Łódź and Warsaw. In 1988 she obtained a title of professor of fine arts. She took part in Paris Biennale in 1959. Exhibition in ‘Ecole de Paris’ in Galerie Charpentier brought her Nouvelle Ecole de Paris honorary membership. During 1963-1966 her art was exhibited at Salon de Mai in Paris. In 2000 she was awarded with Jan Cybis Prize.

PRIZES & RECOGNITIONS

Teresa Pągowska was the laureate of the Jan Cybis Prize (2000) and the Kazimierz Ostrowski Prize (2002). She also received an honorary doctorate from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk.

You have to see a lot in order to reject a lot, gain greater opulence by eliminating; the formal reductions enhance the clarity of expression and increase the power of the image. One must constantly look for one’s own  expression and fight against this  happiness known as painting. —  Teresa Pągowska

WORKS IN COLLECTIONS

Teresa Pągowska’s works can be found, among others, in in the collections of the National Museum in Warsaw, the National Museum in Krakow and the National Museum in Poznań, the Zachęta National Gallery of Art, the Museum of Art in Łódź and in private collections in Poland and abroad.

Painting by prof. Teresa Pągowska presented at the exhibition Polish Contemporary Art organized by the Katarzyna Napiórkowska Art Gallery in Warsaw  in 2001.
