ŁUKASZ KRUPSKI

SCULPTURE

Łukasz Krupski is a contemporary sculptor. Born in 1990 in Warsaw, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where in 2014 he defended his diploma with rector’s distinction in the Sculpture Department under Prof. Paweł Gawron. In 2025, he obtained his doctorate in art under the supervision of Prof. Maciej Aleksandrowicz.

He is the recipient of numerous awards, including first prize in the stone sculpture competition in Neuzelle, Germany, the Fr. Janusz Pasierb Award, and the “Young Poland” scholarship in 2020 for sculptural materials and album publication. In 2024, he received the Włodzimierz Pietrzak Award for sculptural work bearing witness to faith and care for the sacred in art.

The artist is the creator of significant public works in Warsaw, such as the Monument to the Mother in Wola, commemorating mothers who lost children in wars. He crafted the Way of the Cross in the Basilica of St. John the Baptist – a cycle seamlessly integrated with the temple’s historical heritage and architectural form. He also created the bust of Cyprian Norwid at the University of Warsaw.

In his work, Krupski explores the theme of man as a space where spirit and matter intertwine. He embeds sculpture in the phenomenon of encounter, giving it fundamental significance in the process of human meeting human – an encounter transcending temporal dimensions. He treats sculpture as a tangible sign and record of man’s struggle with the mystery of self and humanity’s place in the surrounding universe.

The artist emphasizes the phenomenon of timeless encounter, immortalized by art as a mirror revealing inner reality. A key inspiration in his oeuvre is the Bible. Poetry also serves as a source, along with life attitudes – such as that of Zbigniew Herbert.

Łukasz Krupski works in various materials in his realizations, including stone – such as marble from Carrara quarries, from which masters like Michelangelo drew. Great masters serve as reference points on his artistic path.

In July 2024, he presented the “Magic of Encounter” exhibition on Plac Trzech Krzyży in Warsaw – 21 sculptures around St. Alexander’s Church, provoking reflection on spirituality and corporeality.

Łukasz Krupski collaborates with Galeria Sztuki Katarzyny Napiórkowskiej in Warsaw and Brussels.
